Summoners War: Chronicles is a fantastic new addition to the Summoners War franchise
If you play any kind of monster collecting or gacha games on mobile, you’re probably already familiar with Summoners War, a popular IP put out by Com2uS. After Lost Centuria was released, it also shouldn’t be a surprise that they’re now trying their hand at a mobile/PC crossover MMO. I had a chance to wander around and kick tires for a few days, and honestly? It’s about on par with their other offerings, it’s flashy, potentially addictive, cute and while not particularly innovative, it’s a solid example of other successful entries in the same category.
The gameplay mechanics are very easy to learn for any player playing out for the first time and will enjoy the game at its best as well. The storyline never creates boredom for the players and always keeps that suspense, thrill, and enthusiasm inside the heart of the players.
The more mundane aspects of advancement, completing story missions, and unlocking new features, is quick and streamlined thanks to the automation options, but these kinds of systems can often be off-putting for the more traditional MMO player that enjoys the grind of the journey as much as the destination. For several hours I was having the game run through the quests for me, grabbing my rewards as they popped up, and navigating the various menus as I was killing enemies. The game has a wealth of information to take in, with mechanics hidden within mechanics. Being able to progress while disseminating that information feels very rewarding.
It’s pretty, if simplistic, and keeps the feel of a Summoners War game. If you’ve played them before, there will be plenty of pointing-at-the-screen as you notice certain creatures or scenery or other miscellanies that remind you of their other games. I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed their cut scenes were done in 2d animation-anime style-rather than the typical stiff and awkwardly puppeted character models. Some might not like it, but for me it was a nice change. I wish more games would do so, but I suppose that’s a matter of taste. The music is also surprisingly good-it won’t win any awards, but it’s better than I’ve heard for a while. The voice acting is much the same-surprisingly good, but not great, and I wasn’t, unlike most games, waiting until I could mute the game for some peace and quiet. For me, that’s pretty rare.
The environment shown in the game is so pleasing and beautiful that it has the capability to attract every player out there. The 3D graphics used all over the development is just top-notch. It has been done so keenly that players can even get some of the visions of the great game, Genshin Impact while climbing through the ladders of the Summoners War Universe.
Summoners War: Chronicles is a fantastic new addition to the Summoners War franchise. While it may not appeal to all fans of the MMO space, it’s definitely going to entice more fans of mobile gaming into bigger and broader open-worlds.
