hI lucas, thats a great question. I need for you to include details on each of the specifcs...in my prior mail.. knight rank... geo.. etc.. and this all affects each persons individual que.. if nothing else... and you want to do it on your own.. divide 24 hrs by the number of ques you do per day. and this is the average que time that you will need. for me.. Ive been playing the game for well over a year. so i dont like to que more than 6 times a day.. so my average que (ratio of cotage and barracks) needs to last for 4 hours each.. that way it will go 24/7. You can figure it out as well if you have different queing like combined t3/t1. remember max regeneration is at 2 hours if you dont have resource fields.. and those take away from your max trainable population.

      sorry to resurrect this thread...

I found this thread googling almost the same question as the OP
Since opinion seemed somewhat divided, I decided to do some playing with numbers and a training time calculator spreadsheet I found (which is accurate with my current barracks, knights etc.)

      Assume:
      idle population = 31550
      geometry level = 9
      blacksmith level = 9
      knight level = 93
      number of barracks = 17
      (so total sum barracks level = 9*17 = 153

      with 31550 pop I can train 15775 t1 troops in 14210 secs
      with 31550 pop I can train 7887 t2 troops in 37892 secs
      with 31550 pop I can train 3943 t3 troops in 47359 secs

      t1 troops have 4 might each giving (4 x 15775) / 14210 = 4.44 might/sec production rate
      t2 troops have 16 might each giving (16 x 7887) / 37892 = 3.33 might/sec production rate
      t3 troops have 24 might each giving (24 x 3943) / 47359 = 2.00 might/sec production rate

In this scenario, you need to sacrifice more than 9 barracks before your might production rate would drop below the rate you would get building t3 troops with 17 barracks.

In conclusion, if you goal is to maintain the highest rate of might production while making your build times longer it's almost always going to be better to replace barracks with cottages than to keep a high number of barracks and build t3

The ratio of barracks to cottages depends on your time you can devote to the game. I have been from 2 cots training t3 to 9 cots training t1.

I have switched back and forth depending on the time I have to play and this is what I base my ratio on.

If my cues in my barracks are full of full cues then I am on more then before and I destroy a cottage and build a barrack to lower my cue size and train it faster.

If my cues are empty then I am not playing as much as before so I destroy a barrack and build a cottage to increase my cue size so more troops are training while I am not able to be on.

With your taxes at zero and your fields destroyed your population will be full in exactly 2 hours and if you can get online every 2 hours then you can have your cities training constantly with little or no down time or population sitting around being useless to you. This is the optimum training that can be done but realistically you need 8 hours offline so having your cues filled every 2 hours and completed every 2.5 hours gives you 8 hours offline after training for 16 hours.

t3 and t2 are useless to train since the only real benefit is speed and 4X power but by your stats above

        with 31550 pop I can train 15775 t1 troops in 14210 secs
        with 31550 pop I can train 7887 t2 troops in 37892 secs
        with 31550 pop I can train 3943 t3 troops in 47359 secs

it takes 3.3333.... times longer to train so the real benefit is speed in marches.

The downfall in training t3 is they die the same as 4 t1 troops but the might loss is 24 might instead of 4 t1 troops which is 16 might. So if your goal is might, power, or tk's then t1 are the best to train. But if you want quick marches without the gems and speedups then t3 are the way. I prefer to have around 100k mixed t3 sitting around to help my wagons with walls when I farm but that is the max I have now, I had 400k at one point and lost them to t1 attacks with bad ratios for me.

People forget that faster isn't always better. It's no good being able to train 7000 t1 per hour if you have to train t3 overnight because you can't fill queues.

In my cities I have 16 barracks and 5 cottages. My idle population sits at 10,500 and I have no issues. Its all about how fast you can train troops. I also have no relief station and no round tower. Where the real difference comes in is your knights level. Remeber this game is all about time, and how fast you prepare for war to get the jump on your enemies.
This setup is good if you can check the game often enough. For me, I can't. I can only check once every 10 hours so this is why I would go with what the original poster did. I only need an idle population large enough so that I can que enough to last those 12 hours. I don't que Tier 1 because they train too quickly and I wouldn't be able to maximize the 12 hour limit. I don't check the game often enough to max my ques with Tier 1, so this means I have to que only Tier 2 or Tier 3.

It completely depends on your playstyle. If you have the time to log n multiple times a day, the by all means go with more barracks and very few cottages. If you are limited with your playtime, then you need massive populations to keep the queues full so go with an even split if possible.

I've done both. When I know work will be hectic for awhile, I'll convert to higher population setups. When I can get in more, like now, I run 5 cottages at the very most. 4 if possible.

The one thing I can't stress enough is dump the RSS fields. I know not every world is the same but on both worlds I play on I can farm up more than I can use in 5-10 mins. Once you get over that fear of not having RSS fields there and you start faming more, you'll regret all the time you wasted messing with them.
                great site

I know this post was posted a long time ago, but for future people who read this IT IS AN EXTREMELY STUPID IDEA TO NOT HAVE A ROUND TOWER!!! Always have the tower for events and collecting gems. But other wise I would say you should have a good balance of both barracks and cottage.
