With the event here, the need for the reflect combo is once again being highlighted. While there are more ways to build a reflect combo now than ever, it seems that some players are no closer to building one.
I suggested in another post that free players should save their stones for a Stony stones pack in hopes for St. Christmas I nstead of a summon storm and I just want to go into a few more detailed reasons why it may pay off. Full disclosure, I must say "may pay off" because this is a kabam game and nothing is guaranteed. It's all about chance. But I believe these are some reasons why the %s slightly favor a Stoney stones pack:
1. Even with an increased drop rate 6*s are rarer than the standard drop rate of a 5*. Hoping to pull Drust Mac and/or Gwar during a storm is no more realistic than pulling that single 5*. (For example, I used over 1000 stones during the last storm and only pulled a Drust but am still missing a Gwar. I pulled a St. Christmas with my first 150-200 stones during Stony stones)
2. Say you figure you will use your stones on the storm because you can improve your deck. You can add some needed 5*s along the way.
Yes there's a good chance for that, however, no amount of improvement could make up for the advantage that getting reflect will give you. Say you use all of your stones on the storm and pull a 6* here and there and can finish some 5*s. Great. It still will cost you hundreds of pots and hours to beat an event boss. So you might as well go all in for the reflect combo.
3. Speaking of improvement, the pool for the Stony stones pack included almost every 4-6* card in the game. I pulled an Arthur the Young, others pulled Morgana, Gaznar, etc. Pulling from a wider and rarer selection of cards may actually be more helpful. And while some may think, well if it's a wider pool then the chances for a St. Christmas is lower. But don't forget, the pool for the Stony stone pack included 0 3*s. So it balances out. There are no dire bears, celestial lions or ice mages to sift through. =)
4. Finally, the stony stones pack gave you 3 cards for every 2 stones that you used. That means saving 100 stones gives you 125 pulls. 200 stones gives you 250. Etc. That extra card is a free chance at that coveted Reflect completing combo.
Not only that but who knows if the next time they do a Stony stones promo if some of the other new reflect cards are added to it. So it might not just be about trying to get that St. Christmas. Maybe the Sorrowful swordsman gets thrown in or Balin appears in there.
All in all, I know it's a gamble and I'm not saying it's a no brainer to wait for a Stony stones promo but I think it will pay off in the long run. After all, it was the first time St. Christmas was up for grabs completely for free. And though we don't know when they will give us another stony promo, maybe if players begin to petition for it, a GM may consider it and make it happen.
Until then, good luck with everything.
