  • Refund anyone?

I am requesting a refund for this in-App purchase due to the fact that the game Heroes of Camelot by Kabam, Inc. is in violation of the App Store Review Guidelines. I have been playing this game since February and have made numerous in-App purchases since that time. I have made these purchases to support the advancement of my game experience and to support the development of the game. However, in response to regularly occurring issues in the game I am now requesting a refund of this purchase. I have attempted to secure a refund directly from Kabam through their in-game ticket system and have been denied a refund and offered menial compensation in return. In doing further research, I have found that Kabam is in violation of the iTunes App Store Review Guidelines. I have identified the following list of violations and examples to support the violations. Due to these violations and the fact Kabam is able to offer in-game purchases for this game, I am requesting a refund for this purchase. Please see below:

The entire document of the App Review Guidelines can be found here:

    https://developer.apple.com/app-stor...ew/guidelines/

**2.2 Apps that exhibit bugs will be rejected

This game has numerous bugs that have persisted over many months. Even when a bug is fixed in one iteration of the game/event, it will present itself in the future. Examples include Arenas in the game where rewards are not properly displayed/distributed, Arena participation that is restricted by Deck type are not properly enforced, and new events where point accumulation from previous similar events are not reset. Other bugs have been identified by players on the discussion forums for this game and can be found here: http://community.kabam.com/forums/fo...oes-of-Camelot

And, today, I experienced a Fatal Error 101 and the game crashed on my 4 different times.

**2.3 Apps that do not perform as advertised by the developer will be rejected

This game has numerous functions that do not perform as advertised by the developer. The Kabam reward program doesn’t work for iOS players but does work for Droid OS players. Kabam Rewards are tied to in-game purchases so players that use iOS are not being rewarded or compensated equally as Droid OS players.

**2.4 Apps that include undocumented or hidden features inconsistent with the description of the App will be rejected

This game has a number of different functions/features that are undocumented in the in-game HELP MENU. These undocumented functions require that players learn by making errors, and as a result can suffer financial loss in the process. Some of these undocumented features can be viewed as hacks as some players take advantage while unaware players do not. There are no published rules or instructions for this game.

**2.9 Apps that are "demo", "trial", or "test" versions will be rejected. Beta Apps may only be submitted through TestFlight and must follow the TestFlight guidelines

This game has been in a constant state of “testing”. New updates to the game a being rolled out on a regular basis, approximately every 4-5 weeks. Some of the major updates to content have been new cities to explore, new arena types, new arena matching system, Castle Siege and new boss raids. Almost all of these new features have been introduced with no announcement. And, they have all been introduced with major bugs that have either required them to pull back the new content or leaving the content live and letting players continue to play with these bugs in place. It seems that only major bugs that impede upon Kabam’s ability to make money (by giving in game resources inadvertently to players) have been corrected. In a latest example, a new event went live where players received excessive in-game resources (summon stones, 5* and 6* cards and leveling cards). Players who happened to be online at the time benefitted greatly from this bug. When the bug was identified, Kabam shut down all servers to correct the issue. This left some players greatly advantaged and some players greatly disadvantaged. Kabam refused to roll back servers after the bug was identified and fixed. Other bugs have been identified by players on the discussion forums for this game and can be found here: http://community.kabam.com/forums/fo...oes-of-Camelot. On those forums one the moderators admitted that content is being released that has not been tested or with known bugs.

**2.22 Apps that arbitrarily restrict which users may use the App, such as by location or carrier, may be rejected

As stated above, the Kabam reward program doesn’t work for iOS players but does work for Droid OS players. Kabam Rewards are tied to in-game purchases so players that use iOS are not being rewarded or compensated equally as Droid OS players.

**11.1 Apps that unlock or enable additional features or functionality with mechanisms other than the App Store will be rejected

As stated above, the Kabam reward program doesn’t work for iOS players but does work for Droid OS players. Kabam Rewards are tied to in-game purchases so players that use iOS are not being rewarded or compensated equally as Droid OS players.

**11.2 Apps utilizing a system other than the In-App Purchase API (IAP) to purchase content, functionality, or services in an App will be rejected

As stated above, the Kabam reward program doesn’t work for iOS players but does work for Droid OS players. Kabam Rewards are tied to in-game purchases so players that use iOS are not being rewarded or compensated equally as Droid OS players.

**11.9 Apps containing content or services that expire after a limited time will be rejected, except for specific approved content (e.g. films, television programs, music, books)

This game has an inventory system that will remove items from your inventory after a certain time period. There are certains cards (specifically Brown Donkeys, Grey Mules and Golden Donkeys) that “expire” from your inventory after a certain time period. Additionally, if your inventory exceeds its capacity lower level cards are removed from your inventory to make room for newly acquired cards. This information is not published anywhere in the rules or instructions for the game, so players have to learn this fact the hard way, mostly after experiencing considerable loss of ingame inventory items.

**20.3 It must be permissible by law for the developer to run a lottery App, and a lottery App must have all of the following characteristics: consideration, chance, and a prize

Heroes of Camelot allows for the purchase of in-game currency called Gems. These gems are used to purchase “booster packs” and Summoning Stones. These packs and stones are used to acquire cards in the game that are used to compete against other players. These cards have different strengths. The stronger cards are rarer and harder to acquire. 6-star (or 6*) cards are the strongest and hardest to acquire. Kabam is constantly advertising in the game for players to purchase these packs and announces that there is a “chance” to win these cards. Yet, for these each of these cards and packs, the actual % chance to win these cards is never announced or made apparent to players. There are often promotions advertised in game for increased % chance to win these cards. On numerous occasions the % chance increase is changed in the middle of the promotion (from 3x to 2x chance and 6x to 5x chance). Even if this in game feature isn’t in direct violation of this rule, it is still fraudulent behavior. On the Kabam forums, players report using summon stones during these promotions with resulting zero “drops” of these 6* cards. Even with random chance, some players report not winning any of the reported higher chance to win these 6* cards. Some players are using hundreds of summoning stones with no luck. Additionally, there are other promotions (called mini-games) where a player must spend 100 gems (or $1.42 of in game currency) to pick one of three boxes for a chance to win a promotional 6* card (this is a 3-card Monty Game and is a form of gambling). Players have reported spending upwards of $1000 dollars on these events without winning one 6* card. Actual percentage chances for these promotions need to be published and aren’t. Players are left feeling cheated by the game. Again, looking at the forums for this game, as shared above, will illustrate just how bad this situation is.

This concludes the list of issues and concerns I have with the game Heroes of Camelot and with Kabam, Inc. I am requesting a refund of this in-App purchase. If I am not granted this refund, I will be in contact with the CA Attorney Generals office to report Kabam, Inc. However, Apple and iTunes holds responsibility in this situation as well. I am hopeful that this situation can be resolved through a straightforward refund of this purchase. I have heard reports from other players that have received refunds from iTunes for in-App purchases made in this game/application.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
