  • v3.2 Update and Beyond: Q&A with Aaron & Curtis!

    Hello Heroes!

Version 3.2 is just around the corner! Version 3.2 has some neat updates for all of you that you'll be able to enjoy immediately -- but more importantly, it has some big updates to our tools and systems that help lay the groundwork for future features, improvements and more.

So, in addition to sharing the Version 3.2 release notes and answering any questions you might have, we decided to do a small Q&A session to share some of our plans and visions for HOC moving forward! Now, be aware: some of our ideas are still just ideas, and we're still working on fleshing them out. Things can always change, and the information we share here is by no means guaranteed (especially when it comes to timelines!). But, this flexibility means we can also re-assess our ideas based on your own feedback. Also note, some information can't be shared quite yet. But we'll do our best to answer your questions nonetheless.

So without further ado, I open the v3.2 Update and Beyond: Q&A w/ Aaron and Curtis!

The next couple of posts will provide some basic information about v3.2.

    Cheers,
    Aaron

p.s. Please be aware that responses from both Curtis and myself may take a bit of time. And again, we won't be able to share some details yet -- but we will share as much about our ideas as we can!

    Version 3.2 Release Notes

    New Features and Improvements:

? Friends Code: Invite friends and receive Awesome Prizes!
? Brand New Graphics: Enjoy stunning new Combat Animations!
    ? New and Improved Inventory
? Arena Improvements: Play tons of New Arenas according to your Level and Skills!
? Earn Guaranteed daily Prizes with a Mystery Box Subscription
? Find Collectible Tokens to Enter Exclusive Arenas!

    Further Details:

    Combat Animations:
We pretty much just started with these, and we plan on creating many more in the future. Eventually we hope that fire skills will display blazing fireballs, ice skills will 'freeze' the screen, healing skills will cause a bright 'glow,' and more. For this update, we updated only the basic animations. And there are two results:
    1) They are cleaner and crisper than before.
    2) The new animations help improve performance (due to frame rates and such).

    Inventory:
There's a whole new inventory system, featuring a Vault, an Inventory, your deck, and Notification attachments:

Inventory: Inventories collect non-card items in 32 slots (though you can purchase more), and each item has its own unique stack capacity. Tickets might stack up to 5,000, for example, and potions can stack up to 100. When you obtain a card, it goes straight to your Inventory (unless it's filled up).

Decks: your card deck remains the same. We plan on expanding the capacity from 100 to 200 -- although this might take another week. Treasuries will be gone (see below for more details), so that extra space will be vital for you guys.

Vault: A new treasury-like system. You can pull items from here to your Deck or Inventory.

Notification Attachments: No more auto-selling! When you fill up your Inventory and Vault, items will be held for you via a Notification Attachment. You can accept these items via your Mail menu. Currently, the limit is 100 Notification Attachments, but we might expand this to 150 or even 200.

Treasuries will remain for about 30 days. You will have this time to move items into your Inventory, Deck and Vault.

    Friend Codes:
Each player will have a reference code that they can share with friends via Facebook and more. When your friends input your reference code, you get items! Well, not quite...they have to get to Level 10 first.

    Mystery Box Subscriptions:
Think of it as a mystery box that doesn't go away! Or at least, it lasts for 7 days. Or 14 days. Or however long (each one will be unique). Every day, your can open this mystery box and have a chance to win prizes. Every day might even contain unique prizes -- for example, maybe on Day 5 you'll have an extra special chance to win a brand new 6-star card.

    Collectible Tokens:
We have 5 new collectible tokens that may be used to enter arenas, purchase exclusive Booster Packs, or more. These include:
    - Fire Token
    - Stag Token
    - Stone Token
    - Ice Token
    - Tree Token

Keep an eye out for opportunities to collect these tokens! You might see them in City Events, Arenas, mini-games, mystery chests, booster packs, Castle Siege and more!

    Arena Updates:
We have two big arena updates, and we've laid the foundations in the back-end for future updates. The current ones include:

    1. We can now change the cost of entry for arenas. This means a couple different things:
    - We can change the cost type from arena tickets to gold, the collectible tokens, gems and more.
    - We can charge the aforementioned items on a per battle basis -- as you're used to -- or we can make arenas with just one upfront payment. Then, you can battle as much as you'd like with no obstacles. Or at least, no obstacles besides each other
    - We can change the cost amount. Some arenas might cost 100 gold, some might cost 1,000 gold. It'll vary from arena to arena.

    2. We have new arena restrictions that will let us restrict each arena by card rarity per card. So we can make arenas where, say, only 3-star cards are allowed.

Yes! Not yet, though. We'll have one or two new raid bosses coming in the next update. We are trying to assess ways to improve the raid system in general; this may be a few updates away, but we'll see!

If by "cities" you are referring to the default 10 cities, then it looks like these are still a few updates away. You will continue to see City Events -- and we plan on continuing to improve these events with small changes using your feedback plus introducing some new mechanics. Some of these improvements might be in the very next event (Death City -- name still pending there). Some of them -- like the new mechanics -- are probably an update or even a couple updates away.

Improved arena systems in the future, Castle Siege improvements, City Event improvements, new collectibles, Guild vs. Guild battles, ladder systems and more! All planned, just a matter of dev time.

For now -- that is, in Version 3.2 -- we hope we can keep you entertained simply by optimizing our current events (like City Events and Arenas).

See the second post! There's a section about the New Inventory system.

      Not yet

We're still discussing some possible solutions here.

We've been holding off on Castle Siege in order to add some updates -- although many players seem to want it back. Maybe we can run one for now with small tweaks and modifications while the bigger updates are in development.

As for Dearthlands: we've heard your feedback from the Calamity Event, and we'll definitely take your opinions into consideration when planning the next event (Death 8))

        Concerns Regarding Inventory Limits:

I don't think you need to worry too much about the space. Let's take an exaggerated quantity as an example. Let's say you have 1,500 Mana Potions, 1,500 Stamina Potions, 25,000 Arena Tickets, and 1,000 Summon Stones. Inventory space of these items, as currently designed, will be:

        8 stacks for Mana.
        8 Stacks for Stamina.
        25 Stacks for Arena Tickets.
        10 Stacks for Summon Stones.

        That's 8 + 8 + 25 + 10 = 51 stacks.

Now, 51 is obviously more than the default 32. But that also included far, far more items than you guys have (save for a select few, like MegioN and Dushan...and even for them, this is a high estimate). Plus, the extra slots are pretty inexpensive.

More realistically, you're looking at about 300 Mana, 300 Stamina, 5,000 Arena Tickets, 100 Summon Stones. Which would be 3+3+5+1 = 12 stacks out of 32.

                            Hey, Aaron

                            1) Just want to know if there is any buff for existing combos? Such as treekin combo(living forest), ben-nu combo(phoenix fury) apparently needs buff.

                            2) Some 5* 6* cards doesn't have any useful combo, for example ruibh the wyrm, moria, hope and rogue outlaw, will you add more combo to these cards in v3.2? with existing or new cards?
if not, it would be such ashamed for their artworks, because no one use these cards ever.
