  • Arena stepstools... I mean guardians

    Ok I'm a bit confused
I have a top 5 deck on my server.
I've been coasting through the Advanced arena. On my way up the ranks, maybe as I got around the top 10 spots, a sudden change took place in the competition. A fierce power arose to halt my streak. They were only known as Arena Guardians!
Thankfully I was able to withstand their onslaught and continue on my quest to the top prizes.
But then they arose again... and again... and again...?
Why I've been facing Arena Guardians for the last 80 or so battles I don't know, but they appear as the hard option and it's a free win.
And yet this isn't even the worst part of this post.
I was #1 for a while. But suddenly I have found myself at #4. #2 and #3 have a legit right to their position. But could someone explain why an S deck is holding down the top spot... Ummm maybe it's those cruel arena guardians that I guess are meant to create a more fair and balanced arena?
Listen I don't want to seem domineering but this doesn't make any sense. Good for him if he has more tickets than everyone else, but it's not adding up. Could it be that he is being matched up against guardians every time? If not then what exactly is happening? Is he being paired up with others with a losing record? I'm currently 218-0 in this arena and just recenlty, the arena guardians have disappeared I'm getting forced to face the #2 guy.
I'm very curious about what the #1 guy has to deal with. With an S deck, there's no way he'd be able to beat anyone within 50 spots of him since they are all SSS. (Well maybe unless there are other S decks that are getting themselves up there, I'd have to check). Either way- something just isn't adding up. Does ELO stand for "Even Lower Options"? Because beating on arena guardians seems to express that.
Did you guys run tests on these new changes because it looks like another round of arenas is going to produce bad results. Hopefully it gets looked into.

Thnx Mercy for bringin that up. I dont understand how an s and ss deck get in top 10 and i never get to fight them. I get the top 3 players for hard normal and easy. It impossible for me to get 2000might even if i want to. My easy fight is with mercymercymercy hahaha thats not easy he is one of the best. Why dont i get a normal fight kabam you really messed the arena up. The bonus streak for me is usseles now

It seems pretty simple how an S or SS deck can reach top 10 in arena. Based on how Aaron described the "ELO" system, all you have to do is accumulate losses early. The best strategy for an S deck with a streak bonus is to lose your first 10 fights intentionally. Because the ELO system bases it off wins and losses, not arena rank and deck strength anymore. So all you need to do is put in your farm deck, lose 15 fights in a row, then activate streak bonus, and now all your matchups are weaklings...sounds pretty easy strategy to me.

Guardians are probably a scam by Kabam to force everyone to spend more tixs. There's really not much competition to arenas now, it's just a matter of who wants to spend more tixs. On the bright side, there's no arena based need to give Kabam any money for summons to make your deck stronger. A simple A deck can probably own that arena guardian and rank first if the player wants to spend the tix.

I admittedly don't know why the Arena Guardians are showing up. I'll have to talk to designers and/or devs on that one.

Got the same issue as MErcy and think this is silly. I see many people with S and SS decks climb effortlessly to the top with crappy decks.

The top 1 and top 3 of my server (me) climbed to the first 2 spots right from the start. That didn't prevent these players from climbing, especially that one guy now ranked 1 - he climbed to 5K Might with 2 teams! He's usually SSS but still managed to get rank 1 by getting Guardian Arena at 10 Might all the way using his weak SS deck, refreshing every 3 minutes and getting easy wins. How is that a challenge?

            A new feature? ...

new way of shortening the gap between strong and weak players =) since if a weak players decide to lose 50 battles in the beginning, he could fight weak players for eternity.

Yeah, no need to rush now. I'll exploit the system now and lose on purpose so I can climb facing noobs all the way. What a challenge!

Every system can be exploited. If you are willing to waste dozens of tickets to lose fights, go ahead.

Regarding the guardians: It happened to me, too. I think it happened after I had encountered the #1 player in the 'hard' spot and fought a bunch of the 'medium' and 'easy' decks. However, the guardian was eventually replaced by the #1 player's deck, again.
I imagine there's some kind of 'overflow' issue at work because the ELO system is trying to find an opponent that is stronger than the strongest.

This seems to be more or less correct -- though not exclusive to the #1 spot. It seems that it gives arena guardians when it can't determine the proper opponent.

Well it's nice to know that at least the issue is being identified in some way.
I have a suggestion- Upgrade the arena guardians so they will be look something like Vambrael's second city 5 team. That'll be a challenge and would stop the guardian abuse quickly. =)

Any news on this or we're gonna keep this system where players who have the most tickets win the arena regardless of their deck?
So much for the "we want people to fight head on head, deck strength matter, etc".

                        Rage mode off.

On Gawain-9 now 6 players going to top 5, all with 14k-15k, and the 3-6 goes up only on easy dificulty. Its what you just told, win who have more tickets and time to play. Not the Strongest deck.

As said in the French section last week:

La semaine prochaine j'espère. J'appuie autant que je peux dans ce sens. Nous sortons d'une réunion où nous avons discuté de nos priorités, et celle ci arrive en tête de liste

For me it seems fair enough to give also the low-ranked players a chance of a card.
The one who have more tickets - should win.
